Frequently Asked Questions
How much do you charge?
This really depends on the project - Reach out to me and give me an idea of what you're looking for.
Do you do mixing/mastering?
If it's the music, I prefer to, but we can negotiate if you've someone else in mind. For foley and dialogue, I do very rarely. I find it's best to have somebody entirely dedicated to sound design, apart from music.
Can you hire an orchestra?
I can, though it will be on your dime. Hiring musicians/ensembles is not typically included with the pay for a composer, so, if it's important to you to have live players, you'll need to budget for that in addition to what you budget for paying your composer.
Can you use middleware?
I've limited experience with FMOD, Wwise, Fabric, and Elias. I prefer to do audio implementation myself, but I am flexible with developers around this.
Can I use the music you write in more than one project?
This depends on our agreement. Generally speaking, if you pay to own the music, it's yours to do with as you see fit. This is very expensive, however. If you choose to license the music instead (As many do), you'll be bound to whatever license you negotiated, unless you can negotiate a change later.
How quickly can you work?
This depends on the scope of work, and what standing commitments I already have. A lot is dependent upon when I receive finished materials from a creator, too. Generally speaking, though, I can do rush projects - They just cost a lot.
Do you only compose for fixed media?
No! I've experience composing for spoken word pieces, theatre, art exhibits and galleries, as well as music written to be performed live. I love opportunities to compose for live experiences.
How do I send you reference tracks?
Letting me know the title and the artist of any music/song is generally enough. Due to streaming platforms, most tracks I've been given for reference are only a few clicks away. No need to send any links or files at first - If I need them, we'll talk about it!
